Hôtel Des Créneaux (1503-1513) - 32 Rue Sainte Catherine 45000 Orléans The city hall from 1528 until the French Revolution, the Hôtel Des Créneaux is made up of successive additions to several houses. The first residence faces the Republic Square and dates back to late XIII or XIV century. Between 1445 and 1455, the bell tower, a symbol of municipal power, was built. Then, from 1503 to 1513, a new large hall along Rue Sainte-Catherine was constructed. The facade decor blends Renaissance vocabulary (candelabras, rinceaux, oves, fluted pilasters, shells, angelots, masks) with echoes of Gothic vocabulary (dais, watchtowers, fleuron gables). Statue niches once held king or saint statues, destroyed during the Wars of Religion.
