Hypocycloid Robot Arm Joint
thingiverse
I recently discovered an interesting blog post about hypocycloid gears on Reprap Blog (http://fabricationsofthemind.com/2010/07/09/extruder-design-1-printable-1001-hypocycloidal-gearbox/). Another great resource on hypocycloid gears can be found here (http://www.zincland.com/hypocycloid/). Additionally, a YouTube search for 'hypocycloid reducer' yields numerous video demonstrations. These gears seem ideal for robot arm joints. In fact, I have begun designing a robot arm in OpenSCAD. My model features an arm joint with outer layers fixed and inner four layers rotating as the gears turn. However, I am unable to convert this design to Ponoko bamboo using OpenSCAD, nor do I own a MakerBot yet. If anyone is interested in advancing this project, please contact me for assistance in understanding the file. Edits would be required for printing on a Reprap or similar device.
With this file you will be able to print Hypocycloid Robot Arm Joint with your 3D printer. Click on the button and save the file on your computer to work, edit or customize your design. You can also find more 3D designs for printers on Hypocycloid Robot Arm Joint.
