Hypnos was the embodiment of sleep in ancient Greek mythology, often depicted as a youthful deity. The Greeks credited him with their victory over Troy, as he allegedly put Zeus to sleep in exchange for Pasithea's hand in marriage. This captivating bronze bust, long believed to be an authentic Greek work, is now recognized as a Roman replica from a larger full-figure sculpture featuring Hypnos on its left side. His popularity in the western Mediterranean is evident through numerous discoveries of his likeness in Spain, France, and Italy. Typically, Hypnos is portrayed as a winged young man with flowing locks tied back, although only his head remains in this particular instance.
