Hypersthene #1327 07-20-2020
sketchfab
This sample bears an ancient museum label stating "hypersthene transforming to bronzite and asbestos." The tag identifies its origin as Hartford, Maryland, yet I suspect it may actually hail from Harford County, Maryland. It measures 9.5 cm in width. We prepared a thin section, which displays saw marks on one end, revealing that pyroxene is scarce. Chlorite and serpentine dominate the composition. The greenish hue suggests olivine presence, but no fresh olivine can be detected in the thin section.
