Everyone knows the famous solids of Plato: dice with 4, 6, 8, 12 or 20 faces. These ancient symbols represented the five elements: fire was symbolized by the tetrahedron, earth by the cube, air (or wind) by the octahedron, water by the icosahedron, and space (or ether) by the dodecahedron. The Buddhist tradition adds a sixth element: spirit. But what object could symbolize this mysterious force? A journey into four-dimensional space led to an exciting discovery: in the 4D universe, six equivalents of Platonic solids exist. Five are associated with known elements: the hypercube is linked to earth, the hypertextahedron to fire (and so on). But what about the sixth polytope? The idea struck me like a bolt from the blue: this orphan shape would be rescued! I exclaimed to myself as I slumped into my couch: "The HYPERGRANATOEDRE is empowered to symbolize the spirit!" This magnificent shape embodies the 3D spirit perfectly.
