I engineered this device to accomplish multiple tasks simultaneously, featuring Geared Drive, Bowden, and filament runout sensor capabilities. After extensive trial and error, I successfully designed this system. It utilizes standard optical endstops (sourced from http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1646220) and a hobbed bolt kit obtained on eBay (https://www.ebay.com/itm/273770574343?ul_noapp=true). The tube input features an M5 thread, which comes with the hobbed bolt kit, while the tube output accommodates an M10 tube fitting. Inside the device, I aimed to create a simple and reliable filament swap mechanism, allowing 4mm tubing to be inserted into the body after post-print cleanup on both the output and inlet sides. To facilitate easy filament insertion, I used a drill press to clear the bores. The optical sensor may require shimming for proper alignment (results vary depending on the sensor). Additionally, I designed a preload-style main gear to minimize noise (currently printing the prototype, but it's expected to work as follows): install bed leveling springs, rotate until alignment holes align, install a 3mm screw to secure it, set the motor and pinion in place, then remove the alignment bolt. Once tested, I will provide updates with photos.
