Hypercube Evo HEVO MK3 Fan Duct Modded
thingiverse
After trying a multitude of fan ducts for my HyperCube Evolution, I had reached a point where I was completely unsatisfied with the performance. So, I decided to modify the best one so far to see if I could get even better results. I had been using the semi-circular fan duct for an extended period and it worked well until I started noticing sagging on overhangs at the front edge of my prints. At this point, I began testing out every fan duct I could find. The fang update for the HEVO showed some promise but directed the air about an inch below my nozzle instead of the 1-2mm below that I wanted. I then tried putting tape around the holes on the semi-circular fan duct, just off center, to see if it would improve airflow. While this did yield better results, I still experienced poor overhangs at the front edge. Next, I turned my attention to the MK3 fan duct and noticed that it directed the air much more effectively but was still not directly under the nozzle. After making some quick modifications, I was able to get the fan duct directing the air exactly where I wanted it. I'm extremely pleased with the performance. The mods I introduced were designed to close off the front of the duct, preventing air from blowing forward and instead directing it towards the nozzle. This also gave me more room for adjustment in the vertical axis. I printed all of my overhang tests at 200C in PLA at 60mm/s with a 50-degree bed. I have a bowden setup with a BLTouch and, aside from the hanger for the BLTouch, the X-carriage is stock. I've also included the Fusion360 file so that others can help tweak and modify this design to achieve the best possible prints. I'm no expert when it comes to Fusion360 and feel like I'm constantly hacking it to get what I want. I'd love for someone who knows how to use it well to provide some guidance on airflow analysis. Here are the fan ducts that I tested in my comparison picture. Note that the left side of each print was facing the front edge of the printer, meaning the furthest edge from the fan duct. Update: I've since tried the 3-point version and it works much better than the original. It had about the same results as this modded MK3 version.
