HyperCube - 3D version of our MakeSpace logo
thingiverse
After creating a custom rubber stamp for our local makerspace, I had the inspiration to transform their logo into a three-dimensional model using DesignSpark Mechanical - a program I'm convinced will be my go-to software for 3D modeling of components for CNC milling and 3D printing. The cube was deliberately modeled not to resemble a square. I reduced its height so that the strut angles wouldn't all be at a right angle. My assumption was that this might make it simpler to print, as it would circumvent perfectly horizontal struts when positioned upright on one corner. I printed this design in ABS with no supports, using 75% of the original scale. The cube's struts exhibited a tendency to curl slightly during printing. It might yield better results if made in PLA instead. In DesignSpark Mechanical, I specified Slic3r to automatically slow down the perimeters' speed on the strut layers to 5mm/sec. Uncertain whether this modification was helpful or unhelpful. DesignSpark RS DOC file included.
