Hypercube 3D Printer - Adjustable/Extended Fan Duct (For clone/different hotends)
thingiverse
I built Tech2C's Hypercube but the fan duct is too short for my e3D v6 Clone so I made an adjustment to prevent direct blowing onto the heater block. If you decide to make one please upload a post with your results because I'm eager to see how yours turn out. This modification allows the fan duct to be adjusted 2mm up or down by simply sliding the screw in the slot, giving me more control over airflow. At its highest setting it's the same as the default duct while at its lowest it's approximately 2mm below the standard one. I have mine adjusted to ~1.5mm below default. I also removed 2mm from the top of the duct so it doesn't bottom out on the fan itself, preventing movement altogether. Note that you may need to do a little filing to ensure the screw threads don't engage in the slot. I personally have mine somewhere in the middle of the range for optimal performance. Here's how I designed this modification: 1.) First, I opened Tech2C's fan duct in NetFabb Basic and cut it directly through the screw holes, then moved one half 2mm away from the other, removing the wall that Netfabb generated since it needs to be open for air to pass through. Next, I exported each part. 2.) Luckily, when importing into Meshmixer they stayed 2mm apart as expected, so I made both solid and selected the face of one before extruding it 2mm. In theory, I could have extruded this more to make it even more adjustable, but at that point it would be below the nozzle in most cases. 3.) After making it solid again in Meshmixer, combining the parts, and making it solid once more, I repaired it in Netfabb before finally making it solid one last time in Meshmixer - just to make sure Repetier was satisfied with the printability of my design.
