Hyperboloid Drawing Mechanism
grabcad
In this project, a dynamic simulation was developed using Autodesk Inventor 2014. A multi-hole plate rotates around an axis not intersecting the aligned holes' line, producing circular trajectories for each hole center. This creates a Hyperboloid of rotation - formed by rotating a hyperbola along a co-planar axis. The smallest radius circle is orange and labeled as the waist circle. By adjusting multi-hole plate positions in the iam file, different silhouettes can be achieved up to a cone limit. The dynamic simulation can be reproduced through Environment / Dynamic simulation. A unique visualization of this hyperboloid is displayed in an accompanying picture using lines instead of circles, generated from the associated .ipt file where a multi-body part was created by rotating a non-intersecting line around an axis. Interestingly, the movie's real clock measures its creation time.
