Hyperbolic Paraboloid - round
thingiverse
The hyperbolic paraboloid z=x^2-y^2 is defined within a cylinder x^2+y^2=1, limiting its surface area to fit snugly inside. A previous hyperbolic paraboloid was constrained by a rectangular region on Thingiverse under the ID 934534. One model comes with an equation while the other does not. Print Settings Printer Brand: Formlabs Printer: Form 1 Rafts: Yes Supports: Yes Notes: Printed one in clear and one in grey resin. Both worked effectively, though required a bit of smoothing to remove small bumps at the ends of supports. Some edges have slight bumps that are likely an artifact of the printing or cleaning process. How I Designed This The surface was created in Mathematica, then exported as a .wrl file to Cinema4D. In Cinema4D, I extruded the surface and spent considerable time repairing the mesh using the Optimize function and manual repairs by hand. The equations were built within Cinema4D, then extruded before being removed from the surface using the Boole tool in Cinema4D.
