Hylobius abietis - Large Pine Weevil - Großer brauner Rüsselkäfer The large pine weevil, scientifically known as Hylobius abietis, is a beetle belonging to the Curculionidae family. This species is widely regarded as the most significant pest of commercially important coniferous trees in European plantations. Seedlings planted or emerging from natural regeneration (germinated seed-fall) after clear felling operations are particularly vulnerable. Adult weevils cause damage by consuming the bark of seedlings around the 'collar' of the stem, resulting in ring-barking the tree seedling, which usually leads to its demise. This model was created by the Forestry Department of the University of Applied Sciences Weihenstephan-Triesdorf. It was captured via focus stacking and processed using Agisoft Photoscan software.
