Hydrothermal pyrite-quartz vein rock
sketchfab
Locality: Moldova Size: 12 cm x 13 cm x 10 cm Formula: Feldspar - KAlSi3O8; Galena - PbS; Pyrite - FeS2; Sphalerite - ZnS (alteration product of galena) Description: The most basic hydrothermal deposit to visualize is an outcrop, which forms when a hydrothermal solution flows through an exposed fissure and deposits its dissolved cargo. Many outcrops occur close to bodies of extrusive igneous rocks because the igneous rocks serve as heat sources that create convectively driven flows in hydrothermal solutions. Precipitation of the minerals is usually caused by cooling of the hydrothermal solution, by boiling, or by chemical reactions between the solution and rocks lining the outcrop.
