Hydroponic Avocado Seed Germinating Basket
thingiverse
An avocado seed sprouting basket made from any wide-mouthed container such as a mason jar is a great way to get started. Print out the medium-sized basket template to fit a quart jar and the small basket will fit over most other smaller jars. Use small or medium-sized seeds from ripe avocados for best results. Wash and remove the skin from each seed, then place the flat side down into the basket with the pointed end facing up. Position the basket inside the mason jar as shown, and fill with water until half to three-quarters of the seed is submerged. Place the mason jar in a sunny spot like a window sill, where it will get plenty of natural light. Regularly check the water level to make sure it stays topped up - this will prevent the roots from being exposed to air. Once the roots are well-developed, transfer the plant to soil, leaving half the seed above the surface.
