People are using 60mm diameter metal tubes to store porous ground hydrophonic stones. Don't use tin balls because they have too many air gaps - a lot of water will vaporize in the reservoir if you do. Instead, use the ground material. Pumps aren't necessary because the material is so porous it will deliver enough even at high altitudes. Fill the tube with water and forget about buying salads anymore. Have fun!
