Hydraulic RC Differential Brake
thingiverse
This is a hydraulic brake assembly designed for an R/C car, specifically engineered to mate perfectly with the spur gear on the drive train. In my own implementation of this design, I utilize a two-wheel-drive RC buggy in conjunction with an Arduino and two LM393 sensors to create a basic traction control system. The component protruding from the rectangular 'caliper' is part of a 5mL syringe without a needle, where the plunger for the syringe is glued to one side of the brake 'pad'. The other pad is secured with two toothpicks and glued to the 'caliper'. A piece of 1/8 in silicone tubing will connect from the end of the syringe attached to the brake to another full syringe linked to a servo. By applying force with the servo to the complete syringe, pressure is applied to the rotor through the partial syringe. To support the rotor and hold the gear in place, a custom shaft will be required. I plan to use a piece of threaded rod featuring a hole drilled through for the pin holding the rotor, along with a nut and set screw to secure the gear. The STL titled Servo and Syringe bracket is specifically designed to house a MG996R metal gear servo and a 3ml needle-free syringe, serving as half of the hydraulic control system. To assemble this component, one would need to drill holes for the servo screws and apply glue to secure the syringe in place. A video showcasing the full traction control system in action will be uploaded within a few weeks or months, and the YouTube link will be added to this description at that time.
