This model was developed as part of a collaborative effort between the Veterinary Faculty at the University of the Republic in Uruguay and the University Medical Center Groningen. It depicts an adult Echinococcus granulosus, commonly referred to as the hydatid tapeworm or dog tapeworm, along with some of its internal structures. The adult Echinococcus granulosus, measuring 3-6 mm in length, is found residing within the intestinal tract of its definitive host. Humans are not considered the definitive hosts for this parasite; however, they can become infected if they consume substances contaminated with Echinococcus eggs. Once ingested, these eggs release oncospheres into the small intestine. From there, oncospheres migrate through the circulatory system and produce hydatid cysts in various locations. A model illustrating the parasite's attachment to the intestinal mucosa is available here: https://skfb.ly/6tuLY
