This model resembles an interlocking structure of Hyalodiscopsis plana. Hyalodiscopsis plana is a diatom species with astounding features. Diatoms are algae that build up silica structures on their own. Because of their fascinating structures, one can learn much from these creatures. Their interlocking devices may inspire engineers, architects and even fashion designers.This interlocking structure can be scaled up or down just as you like. You can show the intertwined spines to everybody to show them the amazing und elaborate structures these creatures grow. The print has to be done print in place in order to suceed. This interlocking structure is a good example to teach about diatoms. If printed correctly it should be movable after removing support structures. Note that in nature these spines are only a few micrometres big!
