Hyacinth was a breathtaking young man and devoted lover of the god Apollo, yet he also captivated the attention of West Wind, Zephyr. Apollo and Hyacinth took turns throwing the discus, with Hyacinth running to catch it in an attempt to impress Apollo, only to be struck by the discus as it fell to the ground, resulting in his untimely demise. A surprising twist in the tale reveals that wind god Zephyrus bears responsibility for Hyacinth's death. His extraordinary beauty sparked a bitter feud between Zephyrus and Apollo, with Zephyrus growing jealous of Hyacinth's preference for the radiant archery god Apollo. In a deliberate attempt to cause harm, Zephyrus blew Apollo's discus off course, ultimately leading to Hyacinth's fatal injury. Upon his death, Apollo refused to allow Hades to claim the young man; instead, he transformed his spilled blood into a beautiful flower, the hyacinth.
