Hyacinth at the Louvre, Paris, France

Human: Beautiful Hyacinth caught the eye of Apollo, god of music and poetry, but West Wind Zephyr also fell for him hard. The two men took turns tossing a discus back and forth, with Hyacinth running to catch it every time, hoping to impress his favorite deity. As he sprinted after the spinning discus, he was struck by its hurtling path and died instantly on the ground. But here's where things get really complicated - some versions of this myth claim that Zephyr himself was responsible for Hyacinth's tragic demise. It seems that the West Wind god grew jealous when he saw how much attention Hyacinth showered on Apollo, his arch-nemesis. So, in a fit of rage, Zephyr deliberately blew the discus off course, aiming it straight at Hyacinth to injure and kill him. When death finally claimed Hyacinth, Apollo refused to let Hades take him away - instead, he used the youth's spilled blood to create a beautiful flower that would live on in his honor: the stunning hyacinth.
