So I was really looking forward to the Lego Hogwarts Express when it arrived, but unfortunately, it left me feeling a little let down. Firstly, there wasn't any track included, which was a major drawback. Then there was the single carriage that could barely hold more than a couple of mini-figures. I started thinking, "What if I could turn this into a fantastic Christmas decoration and have it chug around our tree?" So first up is the basic carriage. The roof and base can be printed in black, with the sides (two of each are required, obviously) in red and the seats in grey (again, two are needed). Everything should fit together seamlessly, and I'm going to start working on the more detailed trucks for the wheels next. As always, this is a work-in-progress, so some tweaks may come along the way. Updated: Now with added wheels and trucks. A 2mm steel axle, max 46mm in length, is required. Updated: I've added some progress photos of my first print. Ignore the sanding, as I was trying to use ironing and it messed up the print, much to my frustration. On comparison with the original model, the walls are slightly bigger. I think this might have been due to accidentally extruding rather than removing a key in the base of the walls. It's 1 thin Lego brick too high, so I'm not going to make any changes until I've completed the print and then tweaked it and the rest of the model if necessary. Model Revision Update: The RevA files are slight tweaks on the original files to improve the fit as the tolerances were a bit too tight on my original model.
