Hvalpsund Train Ferry H0
thingiverse
I was in desperate need of a train ferry for my intricate model railway setup. The layout is set in Denmark around 1960, reminiscent of my childhood. I stumbled upon this particular train ferry on the internet in an old article from 2003. It was constructed from wood and plastic card, which inspired me to create it in three-dimensional form. The scale of the model is H0 (1:87), with the tracks on the deck precisely positioned for authenticity. As I continue to work on the project, I plan to add a superstructure and various fittings. One feature I focused on was creating a wooden planking effect on the deck. With time passing, my progress became more refined, leading me to update some aspects of the model. I redesigned the upper hull to accommodate tighter tolerances for the rails. The two new files added for this revision include name tags labeled as 'tac.' The addition of cabins marked 'L' and 'R' on both sides is now possible with my updated design. There are markers within the side structures to guide the placement of these cabins. Moving forward, I included the bridge, deck, roof, two new cabins marked for the bridge, chimney, and ventilator. These components will be part of a complete assembly later. In anticipation of the final product, I've also added an illustration for its assembly. The image is actually taken from another ferry that will soon be released. Presently, all parts are uploaded, leaving only the lower portions of the hull unfinished. Due to an issue reported by users concerning the Kahyt's, I resolved this problem by uploading four new files. These revised files allow the components to be sliced into separate roof and wall sections without requiring any supports. The name of these corrected files is 'Kahyt_(R+L)_WALL' and 'Kahyt(R+L)_ROOF.' My current focus shifted towards building harbor parts, which should be completed before Christmas arrives. I've just uploaded the initial component of the ferry berth to Thingiverse (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1168701). Expect more updates in the near future. **Printing Guidelines** For this train ferry model: - Use raft printing, but the settings are unimportant. - Apply supports where necessary, as they provide extra stability during the print process. - A minimum resolution of 0.2mm should be used for an accurate result. - Utilize an infill percentage of 15% to ensure a balanced density. Important Notes: This project uses PLA printing material and does not require support layers for the lower and upper hulls, as these parts can be printed upside down without any complications. However, certain components will necessitate support layers during the printing process. These specific components include the 'Styrhus,' the cabins labeled as 'Kahyt L+R,' the part requiring a 'print orientation,' the two-part sections for the upper hull and the cabin, the cabin itself with its name marked on it in one or both language versions (the other option is also included, but without markings). Please make sure to follow these specific guidelines to achieve accurate prints.
