You'll need to cut the stock plastic piece even with the face of the tail light, and slightly trim the underside so that the tab-like protrusions are level for the mount to slide in smoothly. To install the Short version, you'll be mounting the plate flush against the bottom, while the other version will cover about one-third of the tail light.
