Human: Bird's eye view of Hurricane Patricia along Mexico's coast. 3D model generated from an image via embossify, with additional cleaning for clarity to display Baja California's south on the top right corner. This project aims to help kids grasp meteorology and understand the nature and rapid formation of storms and phenomena that can be confusing for them. Print Settings: Rafts: No Supports: No Resolution: 200 Infill: 3% Notes: Print on a DittoPro at 120 mm/s Post-Printing Designing This You can replicate this model with any storm picture you like. All you need is a good image of the storm to create a 3D model. Simply upload the file to embossify and generate the STL, then pay the $5 fee for a higher resolution model if desired. Next, upload your model in your preferred slicer software and print it on your 3D printer. Project: Hurricane Patricia Objectives: Students will gain an in-depth understanding of storms' physical aspects through research and visualization. Audience: 3rd to 5th grade Preparation: Students need to research any storm they choose, including conditions that lead to its formation. They must create a list of notable storms and research their intensity. Understanding storm names, intensity measurement, and characteristics is also crucial. Steps Start by having students investigate local notable storms. Have them research their names, intensities, and causes. Make a comprehensive list of all researched storms. Assign each student (or pair) a storm to focus on from the previous step. Students will look for satellite images of their assigned storm and save five photos. Using embossify's website, teach students how to upload pictures, generate STL files, and save individual files with storm names and picture numbers. With slicing software for 3D printers, have students upload each model and choose one to print based on visual appeal or specific features like storm arms or eye details. While models print (potentially taking over a day), have students prepare small presentations about their assigned storms. They can focus on the storms' impact on communities or use ground images to illustrate points. Results Once all prints are complete, students will review and analyze different storms' intensities and characteristics, ultimately creating an interactive, tactile experience through their own model.
