Hurricane clips
thingiverse
These are clips that can be printed and attached to plywood for securing it in the frame if a window needs extra support. There are products out there that are sturdier, made of metal and stronger, but they were all sold out. If anything, those products have a strength rating of 10 out of 10, while PLA has a strength rating of only 2 out of 10... 3 at most. But if you print a lot of them, they will get the job done. Now these clips are not shoveled back into the frame like their metal counterparts. Instead, you place them on the edges of the plywood and secure them down with screws or leave them as is. You can also edit them down so they're closer to the thickness of the plywood you have. After that, you take the pronged end of the clips and bend it so it grips into the sides of your window frame. Yes, you do need to print a lot of them for a small or medium-sized window, but they can help protect your house during an oncoming storm. Printing on a Dremel Idea Machine 3D printer, you can print the Hurricane Clip set and Board Coupler set in under three hours on one bed. A single clip takes less than 40 minutes to print. This means it will take some time to print enough clips to cover an average house worth of windows, but they are a helpful way to cover what you can in a night of printing.
