Huntingtin N17 peptide
thingiverse
This is a 3D model of the huntingtin N17 peptide, the first 17 amino acids of the huntingtin protein that causes devastating Huntington's disease when mutated. My research lab has demonstrated since 2008 that this target region holds significant promise for breakthroughs in HD drug discovery, leading to a groundbreaking new drug lead published in 2018. The peptide sequence forms an alpha-helix, with the following sequence: MATLEKLMKAFESLKSFQ... Two serines are critically affected by hypo-phosphorylation in Huntington's disease, but can be restored to their normal state by innovative small molecule drug leads.
