No ads! threedprintingtoday.libsyn.com After smashing into the overhead fan/lamp with my Vive controllers I realized that replacing the broken glass shade with another may not be a good idea. So instead i pulled out the digital calipers and booted up a CAD package and quickly did a copy of the shade shape. I figured i'd print one and if the wife liked it I'd leave it, if not I'd replace the whole lamp. The result looked so nice using Colofabb's XT that my wife preferred keeping it and replacing the other three shades! The fan is a Hunter, but I'd bet the object can be scaled as needed. I used XT (PETG) given the heat from the incandescent bulb. Note that the file is rather large at 43mb! This is to ensure that there were absolutely no facets so that the shell printed nice and smooth. It could probably be decimated though. Print Settings Printer Brand: MakerBot Printer: MakerBot Replicator 2 Rafts: No Supports: No Resolution: .2mm layer height Notes: I set Simplify 3D with 2 processes; 1 for the lower layers with 4 shells for strength where the screws hold the shade in place, then a second with only 2 shells for translucency for the rest of the shade. I set the tops and the bottoms to "Off" and infill to zero percent. I also set the skirt distance to 0 and added 4 shells to it so there's more for the shade to hold on to the bed with.
