"Hundred kids" pen holder
thingiverse
A hundred kids celebrating New Year is a classic Chinese art subject that embodies prosperity, happiness, and fertility. The term "a hundred" is used liberally in Chinese literature to mean many, not necessarily exactly a hundred. The original art piece was a fan painting on a hand fan created by Su Hanchen around 1150 CE. The "hundred kids" pen holders are typically bamboo carvings of the same subject. Stronghero3d made a highly detailed 3D sculpture in the style of a bamboo carving, but it was only a surface and printed solid. I remixed it into a proper pen holder. The pen holder measures 18.4cm tall because traditional Chinese brush pens are very long. At full scale, the pen holder would be unusable for Western pens. Therefore, I also made a shallow version where the bottom 40% is solid. You may also print the regular version at a 50% scale, although details may not show as well, and the pen holder may be too unstable. To get the best result, print the shallow version at full scale.
