Human Skull for Adafruit HalloWing + PIR
thingiverse
This is a version of the MakerBot human skull with cutouts designed specifically for the Adafruit HalloWing and the HC-SR501 PIR passive infrared motion sensor. It's intended to be a printable replica of the skull featured in the [Adafruit All-Seeing Skull tutorial](https://learn.adafruit.com/hallowing-all-seeing-skull?view=all). To print the complete skull, grab the jaw and skullcap from the MakerBot skull (available on Thingiverse) and print them at a scale of *240%*. I recommend printing the skull and skullcap with a wide brim to prevent warping; I didn't do this and had to fill in the seam using white glue. Adding more grime or paint to nearby details also helped hide the seam. The HalloWing fits neatly into the space when used with the acrylic lens included in AdaBox. This model has semispherical cutouts for this lens and for the lens of the PIR sensor. Both boards will need a touch of museum wax, modeling putty, or hot glue to secure them in place. By design, the side of the HalloWing is accessible from outside the skull, allowing easy access to the power switch. There's a cable cutout that exits through the soft palate so you can sneak a cable out. I also added a little pocket for a (very flexible) USB cable to extend up from the HalloWing. However, my personal preference was to hook up the USB 5V (charging) and GND connectors via jumpers on the FeatherWing connectors and not plan on reprogramming it often. I extended the 5V and GND out to a USB B jack I glued into the cable cutout. It's just a hole, so you can add whatever you want. You'll want to finish the assembled skull with some black felt, modeling putty, etc. to patch in gaps and cover up any undesired LEDs. I painted mine with brown, then ivory spray paint, and grimed it up with brown shoe polish. Some of the paint got on the PIR, despite my best efforts, but I do like the way it looks so I might just leave it that way. Happy Halloween!
