The Human Liver: A Vital Organ Located in the Upper Right Abdomen The human liver is a significant organ that resides on the right side of the abdominal cavity. Weighing approximately three pounds, this vital organ has a distinctive reddish-brown hue and a rubbery texture when touched. Due to its location beneath the rib cage, it's typically not possible to feel the liver under normal circumstances. Components of the Human Liver: The Portal System: A network of blood vessels that brings nutrient-rich blood from the digestive tract to the liver for processing. Hepatic Arteries: Blood vessels that supply oxygenated blood directly to the liver tissue. Hepatic Veins: Vessels that carry deoxygenated blood away from the liver and back into the circulation. Biliary System: A network of tubes and ducts responsible for removing waste products, including bile, from the liver.
