Human digestive system

Humans possess a remarkably straightforward internal digestion mechanism. This process is initiated when food enters the mouth where it's mechanically broken down by teeth and mixed with saliva containing enzymes that start to dissolve carbohydrates. The resulting mixture, known as bolus, is then swallowed and passes through the esophagus into the stomach. The stomach, an organ primarily composed of muscular tissue, secretes digestive enzymes and acids that further break down proteins and fats in the food. This acidic environment also kills any bacteria present in the consumed food.
