His eyes squinted against the flickering candlelight and his knuckles, scarred from countless brawls, clenched around a scorched leg of lamb and a tankard of mead. The air hung heavy with the scent of ale and sweat. Mercenaries, rogues and weary travelers crowded around rough-hewn tables, cheering, laughing and cursing as all watched Athena battle a hoard of unruly rats. Sven was beginning to get angry, wishing only to enjoy his feast in peace. “Enough!” Sven roared, slamming his tankard onto the table. The tavern fell silent, eyes turning toward the enraged barbarian. “This place is no tavern - it’s a blasted goblin war camp!” Sven’s voice echoed off the wooden beams. “I seek solace, not a circus!” The bard gulped, his fingers frozen on the lute strings. The dice players exchanged nervous glances and the serving wench scurried away. Sven's massive frame rose from the bench and he swept the room with a glare that could melt iron. “From now on,” he bellowed, “anyone who dares disturb my peace shall face the wrath of Sven Bloodaxe!” The name hung in the air like a storm cloud. Sven Bloodaxe - the legendary barbarian who had slain frost giants, tamed wyverns, and once wrestled a mountain troll into submission. The tavern’s patrons shifted uncomfortably. The bard’s lute went silent, and the dice players pocketed their coins. Even the rats Athena was chasing seemed to hold their breath. Sven settled back onto the bench, his tankard refilled by the trembling serving wench. “Now,” he grumbled, “let’s have some peace, or by the gods, I’ll start tossing tables!” And so, the noise subsided. The patrons whispered in hushed tones, casting wary glances at the corner where Sven Bloodaxe sat scowling. The bard dared not play another note and the dice players rolled their dice with reverence. For in that moment, they knew; When Sven Bloodaxe demanded silence, even the gods themselves listened.
