The Incredible Hulk is a comic book superhero created by writer Stan Lee and artist Jack Kirby. He first appeared in the anthology title "The Incredible Hulk" #1 (May 1962) and was originally conceived as a monster rather than a superhero. After Lee's departure from Marvel Comics, Len Wein took over writing duties for the series in 1974 and introduced Wolverine as an antagonist in issues #180-181. The character's popularity grew further with the launch of "The Rampaging Hulk" magazine in 1977 and the TV series "The Incredible Hulk" which aired from 1978 to 1982. Bill Mantlo became the writer for five years beginning with issue #245, exploring themes such as child abuse and dissociative identity disorder (DID) in his stories. Peter David took over writing duties in 1986 and remained on the series until 1998 when he disagreed with Marvel's decision to kill off Betty Ross. The series was relaunched several times, including "Hulk" in 1999 and "The Incredible Hulk vol. 2" in 2009. Greg Pak took over writing duties in 2006 and wrote several crossover storylines, including "Planet Hulk" and "World War Hulk". The series has also featured other creative teams, such as Jason Aaron and Marc Silvestri. In recent years, the character has been featured in various Marvel Comics titles, including "The Indestructible Hulk" (2012-2014) and "The Hulk" (2014-present).
