This is a modified and split variation of a model originally by Liam over on Grabcad. While I don't think it was meant for printing, I immediately wanted a 600% scaled model of a USB A connector.

BIG UPDATE 9/22/22

Please use the new Pins V3 file when printing the pins, the original V1 are far too fragile for anything other than a display (they will 100% break if you insert a massive USB flash drive, which you could download here…)

These files are preset to 500% scale, “USB Connector Type A 1-1” is a 1:1 scale of all three parts. “USB Connector Type A female v15” is a 1:1 scale with revised pins.

I printed this with PLA, I highly recommend using something more flexible and strong like PETG. The pins are incredibly fragile and have been modified to fit very snug but still have some spring to them. No glue is required unless the pins break like mine did, this model snaps itself together.

Print Instructions for usable model:

Download USB_A_Shell_V3

Download USB_A_Tray_V3

For ultra-accuracy download USB_A_Pin_V1 (optional, super fragile, will break)

For functional use download USB Connector Type A Pin V3

Scale to your desired ratio

Print Settings:

PLA or PETG (really anything slightly flexible)

0.2 layer height for Shell and Tray

Tray and Shell require supports

0.12 layer height for pins

Do not use supports for pins unless you have issues.

Assembly instructions:

Insert pins into the tray as seen in the photos, make sure the front of the pin falls into the slot at the top of the tray (V1 Pin only), and press the small piece into the trenches on the back. V3 pins may need to be glued down as the smaller back pins put pressure on them.

Carefully insert assembled tray into the shell, the back sides of the tray will need to spread slightly before clipping into place.

Enjoy the model!
