HUELLA SANTISTEBAN DEL PUERTO H9
sketchfab
The fossil tracks of Santisteban del Puerto (Jaén) are found in the red layers of the Triassic period (230-220 million years old). This site, covering an area of 18 square meters, contains 26 footprints with a strange morphology. Each tridactyl footprint has three subparallel depressions (two long lateral marks and one shorter central mark). It is believed that they were generated by bipedal reptiles from the archosaur lineage while swimming in a deep enough environment to float and only occasionally touch the bottom with the tip of their toes (semiglaciated tracks). The track H9 measures about 35 centimeters wide and 15 centimeters deep. It consists of three subparallel traces. The three traces (middle and lateral) clearly show the marks of the animal's claws, visible if you rotate and invert the 3D model. Reolid et al., Journal of Iberian Geology (2020), 46:145-161
