I designed a custom cap for my brother's Hue bulb app, called Hue Disco. The goal was to create a cap that fits snugly over the top of the Hue bulb and utilizes its various colors to project the words "Hue Disco". To achieve this, I came up with a two-part design. The bottom part slides over the base of the bulb and clicks into place with the printed top part, which covers the upper portion of the Hue bulb. However, be cautious not to apply too much pressure on the top part, as it can cause cracking. I 3D-printed both parts in black with a high infill. The letters "Hue Disco" were carefully punched out on the top cap using Fusion 360, allowing for a projector-style effect. Additionally, I'm currently working on another design that incorporates a slot for inserting a bar with printed letters in blank filament, similar to a neon sign. This design is also suitable for other creative applications like lampshades or art installations for Hue bulbs.
