Hudson U-Skip
myminifactory
This skip is based on pictures from a 1920's Hudson catalogue. The design scales to 16mm:ft in size, perfect for running on 32mm gauge track. To bring this model to life, you'll need to print four wheels and bearing parts, two ends and supports, one chassis and body. If functionality is your goal, be sure to line the bearing holes in the bearings with short lengths of brass tube - I used K&S tube with an internal diameter of 1/8th and external diameter of 5/32nd. The axles were crafted from 1/8th steel or brass rod. Printing the body proved successful with support, and it cleaned up beautifully with simple sanding. A final touch came in the form of deluxe model's Scenic Rust for a great texture finish. Two variants of the body are available: one U-shape for underground use and a more open V-shape for surface use. For optimal results, print the body upside down with supports and a raft. The rest of the pieces require no support and will print well without a raft.
