Hub for Heavy Duty Filament Spool - parameterised
thingiverse
This user has employed a "Heavy Duty Printable Filament Spool" (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:10219) and an elegantly designed "Ultimaker Mount for Heavy Duty Spool" (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:33461). However, they desired a more robust solution. Despite some hesitance to drill holes in Ultimakers, the user had no qualms and proceeded to design a simple hub for increased durability. The tight internal space of the Ultimaker poses a challenge for fitting nuts, but it is still feasible. This design is specifically tailored for the user's Ultimaker, but may also suit other 3D printers. Two STL files for the cap are available - 'MG cap plus 0_50.stl' and 'MG cap plus 1_00.stl', with the latter being a slightly larger option. The OpenSCAD file is fully parameterized, allowing further customization. The object was printed using DiamondAge natural PLA, with specific layer settings (0.1 thickness, 2.0mm side walls, 1.2mm top and bottom walls, and 20% fill). The cap STL should be rotated to ensure the open end faces upwards during printing. Lastly, mounting requires two 3mm x 20mm screws and nyloc nuts, with washers under the screw heads and nuts for added stability.
