HTC Vive Gunstock (for Onward)
thingiverse
This collection of parts combines to create a gunstock for playing Onward with the HTC Vive. A short length of 3/4" PVC pipe (10 inches long) is used to combine these parts. It is designed to print on a Monoprice Select Mini printer, which has a very small print area of 120mm^3. Fully assembled, the main stock pieces fit onto the controller used for gripping and firing (typically in the right hand), allowing for one-handed use. To print, you need Main and Shoulder (or Shoulder_Narrow) parts, plus each needs one threaded Socket piece to attach them to the pipe. The shoulder piece can be adjusted in or out by a couple of inches to fine-tune it for each rifle. The optional front controller piece cradles the sensor ring of the main-hand Vive controller without locking the two controllers together, allowing you to use the controllers as usual and loosely connect them when wielding your rifle two-handed. This helps with recoil control and makes scoped rifles more manageable. Note that the front controller piece is specific to right- or left-handed use, depending on whether you shoot with your right hand (putting the trackpad under the thumb for movement) or left hand. If you pull the trigger with your right hand, use the file Front_RH_reinforced; if you pull the trigger with your left hand, use the file labeled Front_LH_reinforced. Regarding PVC: 3/4" nominal PVC pipe is widely available in the United States (Home Depot, etc.), and its outside diameter is actually 1.050 inches. Printer Settings: * Printer: Monoprice Select Mini * Rafts: No * Supports: Yes * Resolution: .1 / .2 * Infill: 20% * Notes: The Main, Shoulder, and Socket pieces screw together with threads, so printing these at a finer resolution is probably a good idea (I did them at .1mm layer height). In my experience, these pieces also print best with the threads parallel to the print bed (so pipe tubing on end), allowing for minimal support on Main and Shoulder (and none at all on the sockets). The Front piece doesn't have any fine detail, so .2 is fine, but it will need support.
