HTC Vive Controller Lashing Strap Grip Mod
thingiverse
Made a cheap and easy mod to make my Vive controllers more comfortable, the strap gives you a firm grip around your joints. ### Straps Lashing straps needs to be 18mm x 2mm (width x height), optimal length is 0.5 metres. Excess length can be cut off, melt the edge after cutting. ### Pins Each Vive controller seems to have different diametre for the screw holes. You need to either accurately measure the holes or print the "pins-testing-set.stl" and try out different pins for each controller. Pins needs to be printed horizontally, otherwise they will break inside the holes on the controller. Print pins with supports, scrape off excess support layer on the pins before inserting to avoid wearing down the edges in the screw hole. ### Assembly Demo and assembly video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f3mUGDzB2Gk 1. Attach controller piece. 2. Insert pins. 3. Insert lashing strap, buckle facing to backside of controller. 4. Pull strap through the tracking ring. 5. Loosenly fasten the strap to the buckle 6. Loosely zip-tie the straps under ring, so that the straps are bound together. 7. Fold straps on top of tracking ring to half-size. 8. Loosely zip-tie around the folded strap inside the tracking ring, to the existing zip-tie from step 6. 9. Insert hand and fasten strap to the most loose position you want. (Loosen a bit more if you want to add padding!) 10. Move the strap on controller ring to preference where you want it on hand joints. 11. Fasten zip-ties. 12. Ensure that strap is comfortable tightened and in a semi-loose position. 13. Repeat steps 6-12 if you got the strap distances wrong. (Zip-ties are cheap!).
