HTC Vive Controller Bumpers
thingiverse
We frequently conduct demos with our HTC Vive and discover that individuals unfamiliar with VR often reach beyond the chaperone on a regular basis. This results in people smashing the controllers into the wall. Initially, we employed the Vive controller protectors created by Kf52t, but found that they typically broke near the center, usually destroying the entire print. We were constantly swapping them out. I rebuilt the entire model from scratch in Fusion 360 with similar dimensions, incorporating constant thickness bumpers that don't completely fail when hit. Although they still break, they hold shape for longer than the originals, reducing the need to replace them as often. The top and bottom should also interlock with each other, preventing the top and bottom from rotating independently. A small bolt and wing-nut are all that's required to complete it. Afterwards, I noticed that I didn't fully expose the inside center sensors, but we haven't experienced any significant tracking issues due to this.
