HTC Vive Base Station Mount Flat extension to be used with double sided tape
thingiverse
HTC Vive comes with mounts for base stations that require screws to be mounted. As a renter, I'm limited in my ability to drill walls, so I sought alternative solutions. I wanted to use double-sided tape to mount base stations on the wall, but stock mounts have a low surface area on their backs, leading to poor adhesion. To achieve strong adhesion, a large surface area is necessary. I've used heavy-duty mounting strips from 3M Command Brand, specifically those rated for 2.9KG. Although the base station weighs around 100g, its center of gravity pulls the mount top out rather than down. Despite this, two strips seem to be holding the weight of the base station securely. Before trusting these mounts with real base stations, I hang a dummy load for several hours to test adhesion and follow package instructions (waiting one hour before applying any load). I've used 2 x 10mm M4 bolts with nuts, designed so that the mounting station can be removed without detaching the extension from the wall. **Please note that I am not liable for any damage to your station due to it falling using this extension.
