The original design has a less snug fit for the phone, which may cause scratches. The mounting force on HAMA equipment is reduced. Instead of using 5.8mm HAMA screws, more rigid laptop holders or camera mini-tripods can be used. The base plate is thinner, and the overhang on the lower side of the HAMA mount is less steep. A thicker backplate is also featured. In V3 improvements include cross-supports at the back for better phone fit (though not perfect), compatibility with wider third-party plugs, a looser fit on the HAMA connector, and camera equipment mounting capability (1/4"). V4 sees additional features such as a hole for accessing the power button and a stylus holder. In V5, even wider USB plugs are allowed, and there are holes between cross-supports in the back to prevent warping and save material. The device is compatible with HAMA-compatible or camera-compatible suction cups/tripods/screw-ons, and it can be used with a phone inserted with an extended keyboard. Additional accessories include attaching a cable for power from a car stereo, headphones, or external monitor.
