Castle Pajštún - National Cultural Monument The origins of Castle Pajštún are unclear. Written mention of the Stupava castle (Ztumpa) is linked to 1271, but it may refer to the Dračí hradok or an unconfirmed castle in Stupava. The Pelystan castle was mentioned in 1314 as a confirmed property of Ota, son of Rugeria from Telesprun, by the king. In 1349, the castle came into the hands of the king, while in 1390-1543 it belonged to the counts of St. Jura and Pezinka. In 1546-1550, Gašpar Serédy had the castle on hold; he fortified it better and renovated the residential parts. From 1552, Mikuláš from Salmu and Neuburg owned the castle, and his family held it until 1595, when Mikuláš Pálfi took over. In the 17th century, the Pálfiovcovs significantly modified the medieval castle into a late Renaissance residence. In 1868, the Károliovci acquired the castle estate with ruins. They owned it until the last owner, Ľudovít Károli, left before the end of World War II. Text and descriptions: J.
