I've struggled with getting mine to work properly; hopefully, this clears up any confusion. I'm using a probe called the LJ12A3-4-Z/BY (http://goo.gl/WsFJGQ) from Printrbot - though buying one there is significantly more expensive than elsewhere. To operate the probe effectively, you'll need to regulate the signal voltage to 5V, however the probe itself demands at least 6V of power. I connected the probe's power source to the main input on RAMPS and utilized two 10k resistors to adjust the voltage, just as depicted in the accompanying diagram. For further guidance on making it work, I recommend watching this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EcGFLwj0pnA by Thomas Sanladerer. A mount for Greg's extruder can be found here: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:491105 and firmware configurations for an inductive proximity sensor are outlined here: https://github.com/quillford/Marlin/blob/Marlin_v1/Marlin/Configuration.h
