How to discharge batteries safety
thingiverse
We should handle our batteries with care, as they provide us with convenient electric power. Last month, we discussed how to charge lipo batteries safely, and now it's time to learn about proper discharging techniques. To avoid a battery fire, follow these essential guidelines: Never discharge your batteries at amperage rates higher than the specified limits on their labels. Keep the temperature of your batteries below 140°F during discharge. Adequate cooling is crucial, especially when discharging at maximum rates. Don't let your batteries drop to voltage levels lower than what the manufacturer recommends under load (connected to a vehicle or charger). Never discharge your battery to a level below 3V per cell under load. For Tattu series batteries used in Unmanned Aircraft Systems, the recommended cutoff voltage is 3.5V per cell. Be present and vigilant during the discharging process. Monitor it constantly and respond quickly to any potential issues that may arise. In case of an emergency, stop the process immediately, disconnect the battery, and move it to a safe location outside of buildings or vehicles, away from combustible materials. Even after one hour, a battery can still ignite.
