Hovership Prop Guard 6"
thingiverse
Just getting started with 3D modeling and flying my quad. I discovered these prop guards which were perfect for 6" props, but unfortunately they had colliding faces that wouldn't print in the area where it needed to be strongest. In contrast, the original design features hollows at the end of the spokes for added support. This updated design uses the same hub and rim as the other one with a sleeker spoke setup. I chose to reduce weight and minimize the number of spokes by making them cylindrical. Your thoughts are welcome! Despite being lighter than the original, the weight can vary depending on the fill used, and I've been using 25% fill to keep it lightweight while achieving decent results. Updates: 04/03/2016 I just noticed that the spokes aren't evenly spaced. Although this shouldn't significantly affect the rigidity, I'm adjusting the arms to even out their angles for OCD reasons. Just printed one out and it prints well; the revised spoke design is now uploaded. 04/04/2016 Printed out a new set and observed an extra base layer between arms 3 and 4. I'm unsure if this is a printer issue or a model problem, but it still turned out fine. If you experience this too, please let me know and I'll update the model. 04/05/2016 Unfortunately, my quad hit the top of a thick branch on my tree, falling about 15 feet. Fortunately, I only lost one prop due to it hitting the branch first. The prop guards took the fall incredibly well, didn't break, and saved the other three props, which made me very happy with the results.
