Hoverquad R - IAM3D 2019

Hello Everyone! This is the Hoverquad R, a remote controlled hovercraft that operates differently from your average hovercraft in one key way: it doesn't use an inflatable skirt. Instead, it relies on an air-bearing effect to create a frictionless surface for gliding. The positioning of its propulsion ducts also allows the craft to rotate around its center. This vehicle took home 1st place at the IAM3D (Innovative Additive Manufacturing 3D) competition at ASME E-Fest North in 2019, scoring highest in every category judged on. Our team was thrilled with this win, and we're excited to share our design and concept with you all. This was a notable achievement for the student chapter of ASME at Eastern Washington University, as it marked their first year competing in the IAM3D competition. We used an Arduino Mega with a custom-designed shield to send signals to four RGB LED's, 2 4-in1 ESC's, and powered it through a PDB with a 4-cell lipo. The operation time before the battery would drain too much or overheat was around 10 minutes. Stay tuned for a full parts list, and feel free to ask any questions you may have in the comments below.
