An hourglass, also called a sand timer or sand clock, is a tool for measuring time. Consisting of two glass bulbs connected by a narrow neck, it uses regulated sand flow from one bulb to another to measure intervals. Variables affecting time include sand quantity, coarseness, bulb size, and neck width; hourglasses can be reused indefinitely by flipping the bulbs when one is empty.
