Archaeologists uncovered this ancient game in the tomb of an official named Reniseneb, whose significance is revealed through numerous discoveries of these game boards at Middle Kingdom archaeological sites. The game's importance to Egyptians living 4,000 years ago can be attributed to its widespread presence at various excavation sites. This game, known as Hounds and Jackals, was likely played similarly to modern Chutes and Ladders. Players would initiate their journey from the middle of the board, racing each other down the outer edge and up to the top hole. A simple yet thrilling experience that would have captivated players in ancient Egypt. The necessary components for this game are readily available: a Board (Lid), Box to hold the pieces, and a dice to determine movement. One designer even drew inspiration from Horus, creating a peg modeled by Gargi, which can be found on Thingiverse.
